Good Morning from the Granite State,

There is plenty of granite to be seen in New Hampshire and what can’t be seen will found when one attempts to plant a garden. Recently I heard of an outcropping of white stone in nearby Temple, New Hampshire. With the help of a few folks on Facebook and a passing motorist, I found White Ledges on Kendall Road.

It is a short hike along a beautiful tree lined road next to field to the Ledges. I was told to be underwhelmed but the walk was delighful and I saw a number of people walking their dogs.

I’m guessing that the rock is smoky quartz with a touch of rose quartz. It covered an extensive area and is clearly visible on a satellite view on Google mapssatellite view on Google maps

When I was in the Navy, I didn’t own a car until the last year of my 4 year stint. I was dependent on buses and friends for transportation.  I had friends in California who gave me a ride for a day in the mountains outside of San Diego. I cannot remember the exact location but the landscapes were stunning.

I was intrigued watching the clouds pour over the ridge line and vaporize when they hit the warmer air. This is one of the few photos I have of the day.

The Rosa rugosa is one tough plant. It’s very tolerant of salt and thrives along the coastal areas. I was not surprised to see these growing among the rocks at Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth.

In the early 1980s we visited our friends in Maine. One of our visits was this wonderful lighthouse on the coast. The kids had a great time climbing over these rocks.

 

Fogged in

We took a road trip to the Maine coast on a hot July day to see Cape Neddick Light, have lunch and enjoy the view.When we arrived we discovered what happens when you mix frigid water with humid air.
