Good evening, I chose an appropriate flower for the #floralfriday photo theme on the day before  Halloween, the Amorphophallus titanum.

Corpse Flower

When I heard of a Amorphophallus titanum flowering at the University of Connecticut in 2004, I made a pilgrimage. However I was a bit too late. The flower didn’t have the stench that I expecting. It was starting to collapse.  The trip was worth the drive, the collection of plants was amazing.

Corpse Flower

I found this amusing.

Indian Pipes

Another plant that bears the name “Corpse Plant” but is more commonly known as Indian Pipes. This is very mysterious, a flowering plant with leaves but no chlorophyll.  It survives by a symbiotic relationship with fungi. Isn’t nature amazing?

Tacca chantrieri

Tacca chantrieri (Bat Flower) – I spotted this odd flower in Wentworth Greenhouse, perfect for Halloween isn’t it?
