Sunday’s photo theme is #SacredSunday
In 1985 I traveled to China for Digital Equipment Corporation. We were installing computers that were to be used in the construction of the Three Gorges Dam in Hubei Province.
I expressed a desire to visit temples and my hosts took me to several. These were busy places, more touristy than I expected . I spotted this young woman praying. Note that she is dressed in the typical Post Cultural Revolution olive drab. Many of the men were dressed in similar blue jackets.
China had freedom of religion but the religion must confrom to “normal religious activity”. Falun Gong, Tibetan Buddhists, underground Catholics and Uyghur Muslims face harassment. There is a lesson here for our country when candidates push to impose religious views.
