There is a fungus among us

TGIF everyone,  today’s photo theme is brought to you by #FungusFriday.

Autumn is the time when we see the spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus. Fruit is a relative term, since many of these things are highly toxic. They are starting to appear along our walking route.

This looks vaguely like a Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria) mushroom, but it is missing the white spots on the cap.
A close up view of the gills of a mushroom. Spores drop from the gills in a round pattern. In grassy areas the circle of newly spawned mushrooms can form a fairy ring (aka elf circle, pixie ring)
